In light of the suggested precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maria I. Lopez Immigration Law LLC is taking additional steps to protect our staff, clients, and the Milwaukee community.

Our Office Remains Open

In accordance with the City of Milwaukee Health Department’s Moving Milwaukee Forward order, our office is open during our regular business hours (Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to 2 pm); however, work may be done remotely during this time to assure staff and client health while continuing work on our cases.

We are recommending in-person appointments be limited when possible. If you are a current client and have an appointment currently scheduled, we will keep the in-person appointment unless we contact you to make alternative arrangements. We are equipped to conduct appointments via telephone or video conference. If you have recently traveled or may have had contact with an individual who may have COVID-19, please call us to let us know and we will make alternate arrangements.

Because we may be working remotely, please be aware that our response times may be slower than usual; however, we will do our best to respond the same day. Because we are committed to continue providing a high quality of service, we have also prepared to work entirely remotely if the need arises.

Safe Business Practices

In accordance with the Safe Business Practices recommended by the City of Milwaukee, we are taking additional precautions, which include:

  • Frequent cleaning of high-contact surfaces
  • Regular hand washing and sanitizing
  • No hand shaking
  • Limiting in person meetings to scheduled appointments only (no walk-ins)

If you have an in-person appointment scheduled with our office, please keep the following in mind:

  • Wash or sanitize your hands upon arrival to our office
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes
  • Wear a mask or covering on your face
  • Do not come into the office if you feel sick; please contact us to reschedule your appointment

Appointments with Immigration Agencies

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reopened local offices on June 4, 2020. If you had an appointment which was cancelled due to the closure, your appointment will automatically be rescheduled, and you will receive a new appointment notice. If you have an appointment at USCIS, please read the Visitor Policy for entering their facilities. USCIS application support centers, which are responsible for capturing biometrics, have also resumed services.

The National Visa Center (NVC) continues to work with reduced staff and is responding only to urgent medical or humanitarian inquiries, or necessary case updates that are still pending.

On March 20, 2020, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) temporarily suspended all routine visa services at all U.S. Consulates and Embassies abroad. On July 14, 2020, the DOS noted U.S. Consulates and Embassies will resume services on a post-by-post basis. The DOS is unable to provide a specific date for when each post will resume specific visa services, or when each mission will return to processing at pre-Covid workload levels.

Lopez Immigration Law will inform any clients whose appointments may be affected by closures individually.
