[:en]Starting today, April 30, 2018, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will start using the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) signature confirmation service for mailing certain documents, such as lawful permanent resident cards, employment authorization documents, and travel documents. Applicants will now need to present an identification and sign for the delivery.

Although this requires more of the applicant, it is a welcome change to USCIS’ delivery policies. In the past, these documents were frequently delivered to a valid address but not received by the applicants for various reasons. For example, if the applicant did not change their address with USCIS or if the document was delivered to a valid address but picked up by someone other than the applicant. In those cases, applicants often needed to request, and pay for, a replacement card.

As an alternative to signing for their own document under the new policy, applicants can authorize another person to sign for the delivery by completing the USPS Form 3801.[:es]A partir de hoy, el 30 de abril del 2018, U.S.
