Did you receive an “FBI Privacy Notice” from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)? If so, there is no need to panic.

The FBI Privacy Notices are related to a new FBI database that USCIS gained access to in order to run continuous background checks on applicants for immigration benefits. Because USCIS is mandated by federal law to notify applicants of how their biometrics, such as fingerprints and photographs, is used, the notices were sent to certain applicants.

USCIS has been transitioning from utilizing a one-time background screening to a continuous background screening process where they will run applicants’ fingerprints and photographs to check for criminal history records throughout their immigration process.

If you received a notice, there is nothing for you to do for now and the notice does not mean that there is a problem with your case. If additional information is needed, USCIS will notify you.
